We’ve already got used to seeing rather ordinary things made extreme just to turn them into luxury goods.
It is not uncommon that such dolls are dressed and designed by famous fashion gurus, and the most valuable doll set it is not an exception.
The Italian luxury fashion house has been around since 1983 when it was founded by Franco Moschino; it specializes in ready-to-wear, leather and fashion accessories, but so far they didn’t design a set.
Not many companies manage to mix fun with fashion, but we think Moschino did a great job when they created the doll set.
The pair of fashion dolls are inspired by Jeremy Scott (Moschino’s creative director) and model Stella Maxwell. Moschino’s Barbie and Ken collector’s edition dolls set features a male and a female doll dressed in colorful outfits that Scott and Maxwell wore to the 2015 MTV VMAs.
2015 is the same year Scott designed the Moon Man trophy that was given to the winners at the ceremony.
Scott told InStyle magazine, “What I felt was different and significant this time referencing an actual moment from my life by doing a nod to the looks that I wore with real-life Barbie, Stella Maxwell, to the MTV Video Music Awards last year. Also, with this being the first Ken doll I designed, it seemed befitting for him to be modeled after my iconic tux and no shirt red-carpet look.”
The Moschino’s Limited Edition Barbie & Ken are sold as a set and priced at $200, making them the most expensive set in production.
We’d like to remember you that Moschino has created Barbie-themed collections in the past, even last year they debuted a limited edition collection of Barbie dolls dressed in clothing items from the brand.
Additionally, in September 2014, for Scott’s second season at Moschino, he designed a Barbie-themed collection for Milan Fashion Week.
“I think Barbie is the perfect brand ambassador. She’s fun, she’s glamorous, and at her core, she’s meant to bring happiness and joy—pretty much my mandate at Moschino,” Scott told Vogue.
