The most expensive mainstream laptop in 2026 is the 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 Max chip, which cost $7,349 when fully loaded at its March 2026 launch (128GB of memory and an 8TB SSD). A July 2026 report says Apple has since raised that top build to $10,149, though we could not confirm it. Right behind come $7,000 gaming laptops from MSI and Razer and $6,000 mobile workstations from Dell and Lenovo. The jewel-covered novelty laptops that topped our old list are gone, so this list ranks real, buyable laptops by their highest verified configuration price as of October 2026.

1. Apple MacBook Pro 16-inch, M5 Max: $7,349 and up
The top configuration has an M5 Max with an 18-core CPU and 40-core GPU, 128GB of unified memory, an 8TB SSD and the nano-texture screen. Apple priced it at $7,349 when the chips launched in March 2026, against $1,699 for the base M5 model; once you pick the M5 Pro or M5 Max, the price jumps well past $2,000.
A report on July 8, 2026 said the same build had gone from $9,199 to $10,149 on Apple’s site. Another source said the $10,149 figure was seen on June 25, so the sequence is murky and we treat it as unconfirmed.
We rank on the launch price that we could verify, with the higher figure shown as a reported later price.
2. MSI Titan 18 HX Dragon Edition: from about $7,000
MSI’s flagship 18-inch gaming laptop comes in a Dragon Edition (Draco Epic) that a directory lists from about $7,000, against about $4,299 for the standard Titan 18 HX AI. You pay the gap for finish and a bundle.
This entry rests on one directory listing, so we hedge it as a starting price.
3. Razer Blade 18: $6,999.99
Razer’s online configurator tops out at $6,999.99 for the 2026 Blade 18 with 128GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD. The RTX 5070 Ti version starts at $3,999.99, so memory and graphics account for most of the climb.
The figure is the configurator top price reported for 2026.
4. Dell Pro Max 18 Plus: about $6,000
A mobile workstation with an Intel Core Ultra 9 285HX, an RTX PRO 5000 Blackwell graphics card and 128GB of memory carries a $6,000 list price, according to a published spec list. European retailers list it at roughly 3,599 euros for an easier build.
We use the US list price shown for the fully loaded configuration.
5. Lenovo ThinkPad P16 Gen 3: up to $6,000 and more
ThinkPad’s biggest workstation spans roughly $2,400 to more than $6,000 depending on build, with up to 192GB of RAM. It is the cheapest way into this tier if you skip the top options.
The range comes from one 2026 roundup, and we cite the upper end only as a floor.
6. Alienware Area-51 18: from $4,549
Dell’s 2026 Area-51 gaming flagship is listed from $4,549, and RTX 5090 versions sit above that.
The starting price comes from a retail directory, so the loaded price is higher.
7. MSI Titan 18 HX AI: about $4,299
The base model of MSI’s 18-inch Titan sits near $4,299. Most RTX 5090 18-inch laptops start between $4,000 and $4,500.
We use the directory price for the base configuration.
8. ASUS ROG Strix Scar 18: about $4,199
An RTX 5090 version with an Intel Core Ultra 9 appeared on Best Buy listings at $4,199, before the full 2026 launch, so it may have changed since.
This is a retail listing from before launch.
9. HP ZBook Fury G1i 18: from about $3,500
HP’s largest mobile workstation starts at about $3,500, and fully loaded builds go much higher. We could not verify the top figure.
We rank it on its starting price only, since the top configuration in our source was corrupted.
10. Lenovo Legion Pro 7i: about $3,500
A Legion Pro 7i with an RTX 5090 was reviewed at about $3,499.99. It is the least expensive of the RTX 5090 flagships on this list and a reminder of how far prices spread within the top tier.
The price comes from a single review.
What changed since our old list
The previous version ranked a one-million-dollar Luvaglio, a $350,000 diamond Tulip E-Go, a gold-plated MacBook and a Bentley-branded notebook, all from the 2000s and early 2010s. We could not find any of them on sale in 2026, and none of them has a verified price today, so they are gone. We also dropped the old ThinkPad W540, Acer Ferrari and Voodoo laptops, which are discontinued.
What drives these prices
- Memory and storage. The top MacBook price is mostly 128GB of memory and an 8TB SSD.
- Graphics cards. RTX 5090 and workstation GPUs are the biggest single cost in the gaming and workstation tier.
- The configurator effect. Maker websites stack options so the headline price is far above the model’s starting price.
- Moving prices. Apple’s July 2026 changes show a top build can shift by $950 or more within weeks.
