The most expensive truffle ever sold at auction is a white truffle of about 1.3 kilograms that went for $330,000 on 1 December 2007 at a charity auction at the Grand Lisboa hotel in Macau, and no truffle has beaten that price since (as of October 2026). The buyer was casino owner Stanley Ho, bidding by phone. In 2010 he paid the same $330,000 for a pair.
Truffles are fungi, not chocolates, and the top prices are set at charity auctions where bidders in Hong Kong, Macau and London compete by satellite link. This list ranks the seven highest auction prices we could verify for single lots. Charity-night prices run far above the market: at the 2025 Alba fair, ordinary white truffles traded at about €3,400 to €5,000 a kilo.

1. Single truffle, about 1.3 kg: $330,000
Found in Tuscany, this white truffle was sold on 1 December 2007 in a simultaneous auction between Macau, London and Florence, held at the Grand Lisboa hotel. Stanley Ho bid by phone through his wife. Some reports put the weight at 1.5 kg, but the record keepers list about 1.3 kg. It remains the highest price recorded for a single truffle at auction.

2. Pair of white truffles: $330,000
At the Macau auction in late November 2010, the same bidder’s company took a pair for $330,000: a Tuscan truffle of about two pounds (900 grams) and one from Molise of about 14 ounces (400 grams). Sixteen lots sold that night for a total of $373,500, with the money going to charities in Macau, Britain and Italy. It matches the single-truffle record in dollars, but it buys two truffles.

3. Alba lot, 908 g: about $154,000
The 25th World Alba White Truffle Auction sold its top lot in November 2024 to a Hong Kong bidder for HK$1.2 million, which reports convert to about US$154,000, or €140,000. The price included a trip to Piedmont and a dinner in Hong Kong, so not all of it pays for the fungus. The whole auction brought in about €395,000.

4. Triple-lobed white truffle, just over 1 kg: €110,000
The newest top lot, sold on 9 November 2025 at the Grinzane Cavour Castle auction with satellite bids from Hong Kong, Singapore, Vienna, Frankfurt, Bangkok and Rio de Janeiro. The winning bid came from Hong Kong. The night raised €1.13 million for charities.

5. Alba lot, about 850 g: €75,000
The top lot at the Alba auction in November 2022 went to a Hong Kong bidder at about €75,000. An official from the National Truffle Study Centre called the price symbolic, because it benefits charity and does not reflect the market.

6. Football-sized truffle, 4.16 lb: $61,250
Sotheby’s sold this football-sized truffle in New York in early December 2014 to a Taiwanese buyer who bid by phone. It was the largest white truffle sold at the time, but the price is far below the Macau results.

7. London restaurant’s truffle, 2.4 lb: $52,000
A London restaurant, Zafferano, bought it at a charity auction in Italy in November 2004, which was a record then.

Records set in 2025 and 2026
The 2025 Alba auction on 9 November sold its top truffle for €110,000, well below the 2007 record. We found no truffle sale in 2026 above the 2025 level. The prices at Alba are driven by Hong Kong bidders, who took the top lots in 2022, 2024 and 2025.

- Charity. Bidders pay far above market because the money goes to good causes.
- Size. A truffle over a kilogram is rare, and big ones earn headlines.
- Satellite bidding. Hong Kong and Macau bidders set the top prices.
- Wild supply. White truffles cannot be farmed, which makes every season uncertain.
