Helpful tips for a mother?

Hello, Aluxers! I recently watched a video from this site and I wanted to say THANK YOU for opening my eyes to the possibilities. As the title says, I’m a mother of one gorgeous and smart 11-month-old girl. I work part-time 3 days a week at an entry level job and I really want to grow as a person and financially. As my situation currently stands, my husband works full-time at a call center and our roommate works at a card shop. We currently live in a 2-bedroom apartment and it’s getting crowded…FAST. We live in Montana, so property is well out of our price range. We have nothing saved because rent is absurdly high here. Yup, typical ‘poor’ people, here.

Into the meat of my question: I of course am a mother and I want to make the most of my time. However, there are few jobs that are willing to flex hours so that we don’t have to invest in a babysitter or bother the grandparents that live here. For the time-being I’d like to put my skills to work online but I don’t know where to start! Everything seems like a pyramid scheme!

I would like to know, specifically from other mothers, what they did to get from the bottom to the top. I know it’s possible!

My skills:

  • Digital Art (2 years professional experience with commissioned work)
  • Customer Service (I have a headset but I’m afraid my daughter will create a LOT of background noise.)
  • Organization
  • General Advice (Such as relationships, day-to-day struggles, and other support)
  • Creative Writing

I have tried college, but with the recent state of affairs, campus life wasn’t leading to any higher thinking skills. Without a degree I cannot get employers in higher pay brackets to even look at my resume. I refuse to go to college and put myself in debt when I can barely afford rent. I’ve heard stories about successful businessmen that dropped out or never went to university in the first place. I know it’s not representative of all situations, but I’m a go-getter and very passion driven in my pursuits. All I need is the opportunity and some ideas!

Thank you for any helpful answers!
