How to quit your job and travel the world

1 points

So many people ask us how we do what we do. How do we have the money to travel? How can we afford to do so many interesting things? The truth is we work super hard. We are going to show you how you can quit your 9-5 job to travel the world like we do.

Income

The big question is always about income, how much are we surviving on. We live off one income. I work remotely and so we get a wage coming every month and we budget to live off this. There are three of us living off this one income, so if we can do it you can too.

Finding remote work

It is not always easy to find work from home jobs without being lured into many scams and weird jobs. I have worked in many strange industries in the aim to make money from home… replying to messages on dating sites… speaking to people with weird fetishes. I cannot say these freelance jobs paid very well but they did give me options for earning money.

To find a remote job, that is secure and brings in a monthly income you need to be searching just that… remote work. Check sites like Indeed, We Work Remotely and Let’s Work Remotely. You can work in so many different industries, some of which pay really, really well.

Working remotely means you can leave behind a job where you need to physically attend each day and work from your laptop. The ultimate laptop lifestyle role. Work from anywhere in the world including co-working spaces, hotels, airport and the beach.

Freelancing

I mentioned briefly above that I have done some freelancing. We actually do as much freelancing as we can on the side between travel and work. We can make a few hundred dollars a month extra using sites like Upwork and Freelancer to find one-off jobs.

We tend to stick to editing, proof-reading, article writing and other small jobs which don’t take much time. The beauty of freelancing is that you are not usually paid by the hour, you are paid by the job. This means you can work quickly and earn a good amount of money if you are good at what you do.

Teach online

There are endless opportunities to teach online. You can sign up to websites where you open up lessons for students to book or you can join an online school who bring students to you. In the latter option you are usually fixed to a set schedule which you follow every week. There are many, many online English schools, some which require a degree, or native English speaks, some which do not.

This is a great way to make money with pay per hour ranging from $15-$25. You can make a full-time income working 3 hours per day, 5 days per week if you manage to land a pay rate of $18 or more.

Teach English in person

Another option is to teach English in person. You can earn a lot of money doing this since a lot of countries pay teachers really well. You may need some qualifications to do this.

Look carefully and find a school willing to pay your flights, accommodation and other expenses to make the most money.

Start a blog

A lot of where we earn money is because of our blog. We get paid to write articles or advertise on our blog and often get offered free products or hotel stays in exchange for reviews on our blog. Our blog has been the biggest way we have saved money on our travels so far saving us over £2500 before we even left Scotland.

The more you work on a website the more it grows, and the more it grows the more offers you see coming in. If you can be specific and choose a niche like green travel, family travel, travel as a vegan you can really make your blog into a money-making niche site. One way to do this is to offer feedback and comparisons of items in your niche using affiliate links to make income.

Volunteer

You can actually volunteer to teach English in exchange for food and accommodation. This does not only have to be teaching English though, you can work on farms, help out in hostels, help on building projects and much more. Check websites like HelpX and Workaway for some great opportunities.

House and pet sit

You can travel the world as a house-sitter. This means you stay in someone’s home while they travel to somewhere else. Usually they do this kind of exchange because they have pets, but sometimes they just want the plants watered.

There are many ways you can make money while you travel. Some of the most instant are to get a remote position such as a social media manager or an online English teacher, giving you the money to book flights and take off immediately. These are the best ways to quit your job NOW and get on the road.
