What you need to know about Cloud Disaster Recovery

With physical data storage, any problems to the system could result in a huge disaster. Cloud disaster recovery, which is pretty new in comparison to physical storage recovery, is proving to be a necessity in an age where customers demand an on-going, round the clock service. 

When you have your data stored in the cloud, there are always duplicates being made of your information. This means you always have a backup to go to, should the worst happen. An IT disaster recovery plan works in the same way but on a much larger scale.  With a disaster recovery plan, you will need to work out which of the applications/data are of the highest priority and decide how much downtime you would be able to afford before it hits a red line for your business. Anything you deem critical should be included in your disaster recovery plan, so that these are the details that are replicated more frequently. To speed up recovery you can omit anything that is not detrimental to the business’ day to day operation. 

Operations that are managed by the cloud are a very popular option for businesses because it allows you to have a managed service provider that will give you maximum cloud benefits yet deferring the upkeep. For those working in customer relations, it’s more important to be able to have the continuous operation of their email and other contact services such as video chat on consistently. 

Even if you still like to have some hardware on premise you can still benefit from cloud disaster recovery as you could have a hybrid service allowing you to store on premise yet have backups in the cloud should you need them. This could mean that a business that is subject to arson, water damage or another disaster will still be able to recover files they thought were forever lost with their physical storage in a matter of hours from another location.
