1. Great Wall of China ($260 billion)
What makes the Great Wall of China so expensive is not its complexity or its architectural design. It is simply because of its size.
The wall is 4,500-km long. The height ranges between 15 and 30 feet. And the width is between 15 and 25 feet. With such size and length, it can be seen from outer space. In fact, it is the only man made structure visible from there.
The effort to build this great wall was no less. It took around 200 years and six Chinese generations to complete. And there were over three million people involved as labor force.
It stretches from the Liaonling Province in the East to the Gansu Province in the West. It was built to defend the area against marauding Xiongnu barbarians from the nation’s northern borders. Did it work? Well, there is no one from the dynasty left to tell the story.
However, you can share your story and thought about these most expensive man made attractions in the comment section!
