7. 1886 BENZ PATENT MOTORWAGEN
Yes, don’t worry, this is still a Mercedes, and to be more specific, an 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen.
This beauty is widely regarded as the first automobile, and was designed to be propelled by an internal combustion engine.
The three-wheeled automobile with a rear-mounted engine contained many new inventions and was constructed of steel tubing with woodwork panels. A work of art if you ask me!
It was officially unveiled to the public on July 3, 1886, on the Ringstrasse in Mannheim, Germany, and about 25 Benz Patent Motorwagens were built between 1886 and 1893.
Tests carried out by the University of Mannheim showed that the Benz Patent Motorwagen was capable of .9 hp at 400 rpm.
