Next in line and sixth on the list is the publicly held company headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Marcus Theatres.
This company was founded by Ben Marcus with the purchase of a single movie theatre screen in Ripon, Wisconsin, on November 1, 1935.
It operates two principal divisions: Marcus Theatres and Marcus Hotels and Resorts, and owns or manages screens in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, and Ohio.
They also previously operated Marcus Cable, but it was sold in 1998 and merged with Charter Communications shortly afterwards.
The company was also a restaurant franchiser, but Marcus exited the restaurant business after closing Marc’s and selling of the KFC franchises by 1992.
