2‘The Birds of America’ Book – $11.4 million
Published between 1827 and 1838, a John James Audubon’s book entitled ‘The Birds of America’ broke the Guinness Record.
John James Audubon is the 17th century ornithologist and painter, recognized for his research of a large variety of American birds and for his illustrations of the birds in nature.
‘The Birds of America’ , containing a total of 1.000 illustrations of 435 birds, was published in London and Edinburgh and features 25 new species and 6 birds which are now extinct : Pinnated Grouse, Labrador Duck, Great Auk, Carolina Parakeet, Passenger Pigeon and Esquimax Curlew.
In 2010, a copy of the book was sold at Sotheby’s in London for $11.4 million, breaking the Guinness Record for a published book.
