8. 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196R Formula 1 Single-Seater
Eight on the list and next in line is a spectacular car manufactured by the German automaker Mercedes-Benz, and it’s the W196R Formula 1 Single-Seater.
The Mercedes-Benz W196R Formula 1 Single-Seater was driven by the great Argentinean Juan-Manuel Fangio to clinch the 1954 Formula 1 World Drivers Championship and is the only one left.
The car marked the return of Mercedes-Benz to Grand Prix racing after an absence of 15 years, and allowed Fangio to win the championship in 1954 and 1955.
The original bodywork of the car was covering all four wheels, in order to improve aerodynamic efficiency.
But, Juan Manual Fangio, asked for an open-wheeled version that would help make the car easier to drive around tighter racetracks.
