7. “La Cuisiniere Bourgeoise” by Menon (Sold for $1,013)
This collectible expensive cookbook is written in French and first published in 1746. It was considered as one of the most influential cookbooks in the history of culinary.
The book you see on the picture is the fourth edition published in 1752 by Guillyn, Paris. The book contains recipes and ragouts, including insights of liquors.
The original copy of Menon’s family cookbook is kept in Chateau de Villiers. It has pen inscriptions on each title. On the first blank, there is handwriting in ink from 1875 by Villiers, the last owner of the book.
The copy of this original book is sold for £889 ($1,013). A good price if you appreciate the history behind the Menon’s family in the making of the cookbook itself.
