6. Buddha’s Tooth (Price: $71,000)

Yes, that huge tooth belonged to Buddha. Well, at least that is what people believe.

Buddha was cremated. Yet somehow, one of his teeth remains. So, it was either it survived the fire, fell off and avoided the burn, or was taken before. However, it remains as a symbolic representation of the living Buddha.

This tooth is kept in a temple in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Surprise, surprise: the temple is called the Temple of Tooth. Prior to that, this tooth was fought over many times.

Legend has it: the Abhayagiri vihara was the home of the tooth. However, as the Portuguese invaded the island, it came to their possession. Then the king of Bago, Burma offered £50,000 (approximately $71,000) in exchange of the tooth.

The tooth is used in several ceremonies, rituals, and offerings under a strict supervision of Mahanayakas of Malwatte, Asgiriya and Diyawadana Nilame of Maligawa.
