1. Codex Sinaiticus (Price: $2.5 million)
Codex Sinaiticus is the world’s oldest bible. And it is definitely the greatest biblical treasure. This codex dates back to the 4th century AD. It is handwritten in Greek.
It is currently being kept in the British Library since decades ago. However, it has only left the building twice. Once it was during the World War II for safety reason. And the second time was for the British Museum exhibition.
Then, Britain took over the bible’s possession from the Soviet in 1933. Ramsay MacDonald offered Joseph Stalin £100,000. And the Soviet government took the offer because they needed the money.
Because of the inflation, £100,000 in 1933 is equal to approximately $2.5 million today. Thus, this makes the Codex Sinaiticus the most expensive religious artifact in the world.
