7. Forget Police Officers. Bali has Pecalang
While in most part of the world police officers take charge, Bali gives that authority to their local enforcement called Pecalang. These men were chosen by the local customary to guard the island from all kinds of disruption.
They pretty much do the police work. Instead of sending you to jail, they have their own office spread around Bali.
This does not mean that Bali has no police officers. The national enforcement still exists. However, sometimes they are overruled by Pecalang. It is not a written law. It is just the way things are.
Like police officers, Pecalang wear uniforms as well. But theirs are more like a custom outfit with a unique headband as their hallmark.
