11. Jainism (4.2 million adherents)
Just like most ancient religions, the history of Jain remains uncertain. Indian ancient inscriptions date back to 450 BCE proved the existence of this religion.
Despite the small number of adherents compared to others, Jainism is definitely one of the most powerful religions in the world. One of the world’s renowned, Mahatma Gandhi, adopted many Jain principles in his life.
Jainism teaches its adherents three main things: non-violence, non-absolutism, and non-attachment. Those apply to all the living. Thus, it should come as no surprise that the followers practice strict vegetarianism. They do not eat meat, dairy products, and root vegetables.
Their prayers are not meant to worship or demand, but it is to liberate their souls from worldly attachments and desires. They do not see God as a creator nor destroyer. The universe has existed since infinity. There is no start, nor end.
