7. Sikhism (23 million adherents)
Sikhism was founded by Guru Nanak in Pakistan, in the 16th century. He had always been fascinated by the concept of God, but he did not take part in any religious rituals. He went on a missionary journey.
One day, when people thought he was drowned in Kali Bein, he reappeared and declared that there is no Hindu or Muslim. That was the first step of Sikhism.
Sikhs believe in God as the one supreme reality. He is known as Ik Onkar. Sikhs pray through hymns and meditation.
Sikhism teaches selfless service. Its practices are similar to Hindu’s and Islam’s. What is unique about this religion is its distinctive prohibition of cutting hair for those who have taken the Amrit initiation ceremony.
