10.What Happens When Restaurant, New York, USA
With a very interesting name, What Happens When, located in New York, USA had one of the best bar designs in the world.
Even though it unfortunately closed, the restaurant remains one of the best bars in the world, due to its even more interesting story, brought to reality by one chef, two designers, a photographer and a composer.
What Happens When was “a playground for food”, which transformed every 30 days, for 9 months, offering guests very different culinary, visual and sound experiences.
What Happens When had 3 movements, each of them being different than the others. Movement no. 1 consisted in putting together a brand, a space, a menu, and a sound scape. Basically, this was the start of What Happens When.
Movement no. 2 was inspired by a Kickstarter patron, named Becky Fitzhugh, and represented a journey to a fantastical forest, with jungle beats and wintery-flavoured food.
Movement no. 3 was inspired by an impressionistic painting, and represented a journey into 1880’s France via 2011 New York. The sound was a collage of French music, from the thirteenth through the twenty-first century, while the modern dishes inspired by the flavors and menus of classic 19th century France were making your taste buds happy.
As you can see, What Happens When was in a constant change, and this is what it makes it one of the best and unique bars in the world!
