7. Libya
Despite being the oil rich country, Libya is on the verge of becoming a failed country with a powerless central government. They have been facing this problem since the corrupt regime of Muammar Gaddafi’s left its legacy.
Libya is ranked 161th among 168 countries in the world in terms of corruption index. This makes them the world’s 7th most corrupt country with 16 score.
The Libyan officials and multinational executives have been stealing from the public. They have been taking bribes from many foreign countries with interests towards its natural resources.
One of them was when Canadian law enforcement filed charges against SNC Lavalin for bribery allegations. The Canadian engineering giant put Gaddafi’s daughter-in-law on its payroll in 2011.
