3. Afghanistan
The bronze medal for the world’s most corrupt country goes to Afghanistan. It is ranked 166th with CPI score: 11. To be fair, it shows a slight improvement considering its 2012’s score was 8.
Three years ago, Kabul Bank financial scandal revealed $1 billion personal spending by the president’s relatives. Unfortunately, only $180 million of them were recovered.
Based on this scandal, The New York Times stated that in Afghanistan, corruption is not a cancer within the system, it is the system itself.
Even until today, corruption in Afghanistan still takes place. It is now most often found in the form of offering and demanding bribes in both private and public sectors.
