10. Orlando Shooting
On June 12th, the nightlife of Orlando got loud. But it wasn’t for the music played by the DJ. And it wasn’t for the cheers of happiness as glasses clung for celebration either.
At 2.02 a.m local time, music and cheers were replaced by guns blazing and cries of horror as one man attacked a gay nightclub. That man was Omar Mateen. And that tragedy was the worst hate crime against LGBT community in American history.
Forty nine people were killed. And more than fifty other were wounded. And all happened in one single attack and three-hour standoff with the Orlando police. The amount of casualty was the worst since the 9/11 attack. That is how devastating it was.
Omar was shot and killed during the standoff. Through a 911 call, he swore allegiance to ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant). And he blamed the United States for killing Abu Waheeb in Iraq. However, CIA investigation proved no links between him and ISIL.
