9. Brexit
When it comes to this matter, it’s like two sides of a coin. For those in favor with the result, it was a good thing. But for those in the other end, it became one of the reasons why 2016 was the worst year.
On June 23rd, majority votes were in favor of United Kingdom to leave the European Union. This was somewhat shocking because no one saw this coming. And this event was then later known as Brexit, taken from the term British-exit.
Even though it was a majority decision, it was not a landslide. Only 52% of votes cast were in favor of Brexit. But that is enough to send United Kingdom waving the union goodbye by the end of March this year.
Of course there are consequences of Brexit for both United Kingdom and the EU itself. They will take effect mostly on economy and relationship among the countries, especially those remain EU members. We have to just wait and see if those 52% did make the right choice.
