Each one bundles lodging, meals and activities so you plan once and stop spending decisions on arrival. One catch: Portillo’s winter is the southern winter, running from June to October, not December to March.

How we picked these winter destinations
We kept the five places from our original list and checked whether each is still operating and what it includes today. Where a resort publishes no rates, we say so. Prices are per person and change by season.
1. Ski Portillo, Chile
Portillo sits in the Andes above a lake, in a single hotel that works a bit like a cruise ship for skiers. The 2026 season opened on 20 June after renovations to the chalets, and in August the resort extended it to 11 October after heavy snowfall. A seven-night ski week includes lodging, four meals a day and eight days of lift tickets. The listed low-season rates per person are about $3,250 for a Valley View room, $3,650 for Lake View and $4,350 for a suite, with the Octagon Lodge from about $2,250 and the Inca Lodge from about $1,650 for four guests. Check the resort for peak-season prices.
2. Explora, Chile
Explora runs lodges in Easter Island, Atacama, Patagonia National Park and Torres del Paine, plus a 15,000-acre conservation reserve. Rates include accommodation, all meals and beverages, more than 30 half- and full-day outings per lodge in small groups of up to eight guests, spa facilities, park fees and airport transfers. Two new Patagonia lodges, Explora El Calafate and Explora Torres del Paine Conservation Reserve, are set to open in 2026. Prices are quoted on request.
3. Dunton Hot Springs, Colorado
Dunton is a restored mining settlement at 8,921 feet in the San Juan Mountains of Dolores County, 25 miles southwest of Telluride. It was founded around a homestead in 1885, and the hot springs and log buildings were restored after Christoph Henkel took over in 1994. The cabins hold a small number of guests, and winter activities include soaking in the hot springs. Our earlier edition listed ice climbing, heli-skiing and dog-sledding, but we could not confirm what is offered this winter, so ask when you book. We also dropped an old TripAdvisor ranking, which is out of date.
4. Amankora, Bhutan
Amankora has five lodges across Paro, Thimphu, Punakha, Gangtey and Bumthang, joined by journeys of 3 to 14 nights. The journeys include the Ultimate Amankora Journey of 14 nights, Quest for Happiness of 7 to 16 nights, Cultural Sojourn of 5 to 6 nights and Tiger’s Odyssey of 3 to 4 nights. Rates are not published. Bhutan also charges a daily sustainable development fee, reportedly US$100 a day. The original article said you could only visit through Aman or Como, which is no longer a safe claim, so we removed it.
5. Iso-Syote, Finland
Iso-Syote is a ski and snow destination in the Syote national park area, with a reputation for northern lights viewing. We could not verify a current all-inclusive package, so treat this entry as a destination, and check what each lodge includes before you book.
