If you are looking for a place to spend your next vacation in style, the Pangkor Laut Resort markets itself as a one of a kind experience, a lot more than a comfortable room, and it tells the story like this:
“This piece of paradise has been 2 million years in the making, and here you will find one of the world’s premier resorts nestling in the shade of forest giants as old as the land. “
“A combination of luxury, natural beauty and age-old wilderness woven together to produce an environment where peace and magically memorable moments are the currency.”
The villas and grounds
The resort shares the island with rainforest, and guests get daily guided jungle walks. Rooms range from hillside and garden villas to Sea Villas built over the water, each with a private balcony and a bathtub. Spa Villas sit closest to the Spa Village and are the most private. The Pavarotti Suite has two bedrooms and a wide balcony over sea and forest.
The Estates, on the tip of the island, come with private pools and separate living pavilions, and suit couples, families or groups. Included with a stay are a games room, a 24-hour gym, tennis, pickleball, futsal and basketball courts, and a karaoke room.
History of the island
Pangkor Laut has a long history. During World War II, British officer Freddie Spencer Chapman made his submarine getaway from the island in May 1945 after years in the Malayan jungle. Luciano Pavarotti visited in 1994 and called the island paradise, and in 2002 he officiated the opening of the resort’s Spa Village. Today the resort hosts events tied to both stories, including an opera weekend and a Chapman’s Challenge race.
