Jim Carrey is the funniest man alive, and I am not the only one who said it. He is one of the famous actors who were paid shockingly little for famous roles.
He accepted to star in the comedy film Yes Man for the amount of… nothing. But he did ask for a gross of the overall profits, though he presumably had no idea how much money the film would make.
Carrey accepted the role because he thought it could help him given that he’d been out of the spotlight for a fair amount of time before Yes Man was released.
So there it was certain risk he agreed to take, that the film might flop and Carrey would end up with nothing but with rubbish flick on his CV and wasted couple of months.
But fortunately for everyone, Yes Man, went on to gross $255 million at the box office.
It is true that Carrey’s contract meant that he was given a 36.2% of the profits, which rounded up to about $35 million, a salary he eventually declined.
