Amazon is Building a New HQ and it Looks Amazing

This Is How Amazon’s New Headquarters Will Look Like When Finished

Amazon’s new headquarters is set to be built in downtown Seattle and this is how it is going to look like!

Their new HQ is set to house 1,800 staff for the online retailer. Construction of the new HQ is under way deep down in the South Lake Union block that once housed the old Troy Laundry building.

The finished place will be a two-tower complex of more than 800,000 square feet. One tower will open in mid-2016 and the other, one year later.

Their lease of a full city block in South Lake Union next to its global headquarters put the company back on track to eventually occupy about 10 million square feet in downtown Seattle.

Amazon could grow to nearly 50,000 employees, easily topping the University of Washington as the city’s largest employer.

“You’re putting a lot of eggs in one basket,” said Kip Spencer, a local real-estate expert who founded Officespace.com. “In the event of a retrenchment, it could have a fairly significant negative spiral effect.”

In Seattle, Amazon now occupies just over 4 million square feet, or about 13 percent of downtown Seattle’s “Class A” office inventory, according to Seattle Times research.

“We’ve agreed to lease the Troy Block and we’re really excited to continue growing our urban campus in the heart of Seattle,” John Schoettler, Amazon director of global real estate and facilities, said in a statement.

“Every Seattle office tenant who has negotiated a lease in the last couple of years has felt the ‘Amazon Effect,’?” said tenant broker Brian Hayden of Flinn Ferguson.

“The rate at which Amazon has been absorbing space has had a significant effect on Seattle’s overall vacancy rate, which increases landlord confidence and puts upward pressure on rents.”

Drawings submitted to the planning department show four stores of open-plan office space dotted with mature trees and intersected by circulation cores that appear to be dripping with a kind of green slime.

The huddle of glass balls sit below soaring glass shafts, like an odd fungal growth on the forest floor.

In total area, it is one of the single biggest development projects in the city’s history.

It seems that the company is “seeking to build a neighborhood rather than a campus”, to reflect the brand’s “community-focused culture”.

But does Amazon’s HQ compare with Instagram’s headquarters, or even with the Nokia’s HQ?

The structure’s design inspiration comes from buildings all over the world, including a zoo in Germany and gardens in Singapore. It will be tall enough to accommodate fully-grown trees inside.

What do you think about Amazon’s new headquarters?
