This Apartment In Central Stockholm Is The House You’ve Always Wanted

A large apartment in central Stockholm costs roughly SEK 110,000 to 130,000 per square metre in 2026, or about $11,000 to $13,000 per square metre, with Vasastan and Norrmalm and Östermalm the dearest districts. That is the price context for the full-floor, ten-room central Stockholm apartment we first featured, a home of colourful interiors and vintage furniture.

What central Stockholm costs per square metre in 2026

District SEK per m2 (12 months) About USD per m2 About USD per sq ft
Vasastan and Norrmalm 130,447 $13,100 $1,220
Östermalm 127,553 $12,800 $1,190
Södermalm 112,903 $11,400 $1,055
Kungsholmen 110,260 $11,100 $1,030

These are average sale prices for co-operative apartments (bostadsrätter) over the 12 months to early October 2026, from the Swedish broker sales statistics. We converted at 9.94 Swedish kronor to the dollar (October 26, 2026). In the latest three months Östermalm averaged 129,172 kronor per square metre, with an average sale of SEK 8.06 million (about $810,000) across 645 sales.

How much would a ten-room floor cost?

Our estimate: a full-floor home of 300 square metres (about 3,230 sq ft) at the Östermalm average would come to around SEK 38.8 million, or about $3.9 million. That is a floor, not a ceiling. Averages cover ordinary flats, and a rare full-floor home with period details and a private entrance would usually price above the district rate.

The apartment we featured

The home occupies an entire floor of a building in central Stockholm. It is split into two sections by a hallway: a main part with eight rooms and a second part with two smaller rooms and its own private entrance, which can work as a separate flat. The interior mixes a colourful palette with vintage-style rooms and rustic furniture, and the listing showed marble-clad bathrooms and views over the city skyline.

We cannot verify the address, floor area or asking price of this apartment today. The original version of this article quoted “almost 400 square feet” for ten rooms, which cannot be right, so we have dropped the size.

What to look for in a central Stockholm apartment

  • District: Östermalm and Vasastan and Norrmalm lead on price, Södermalm and Kungsholmen cost roughly 11 to 14 percent less per metre than Östermalm on the 12-month figures.
  • Layout: a second section with its own entrance adds flexibility for guests or a home office.
  • Tenure: most central flats are co-operative apartments, where you buy a share in the housing association and pay a monthly fee.
