What is the Bang Saray House?
It is a modern residence for a Swiss family living in Thailand. Five bedrooms run lengthwise along the upper floor. The lower floor has the kitchen, dining and a large living area that face the outdoor pool and garden.
The living area has a painting by artist and illustrator Fawalai Sirisomphol.
How is it built?
The house uses post-tensioned concrete slabs, a technique more common in larger commercial buildings in Thailand, which keeps the lower floor open behind large glass panels.
The house continues Architectkidd’s interest in using raw and minimally processed materials. The thin horizontal slabs contrast with the cast concrete shear walls and steel columns.
All the wooden elements were designed using reclaimed hard wood timber including the vertical screens which provide shading and natural airflow around the periphery of the upper floor.
