6. Ongoing Research and Development
Although it was revealed in early July, this car is still in progress of making. Besides its look, everything is still pretty much an educated estimation. Adrian Newey, Marek Reichman, and David King are still working hard to make their masterpiece ready for the road.
Newey revealed some of the things the team is currently researching and developing. He said the car will not use twin-clutch gearbox or dual-clutch transmission (DCT). Weighing over 150 kg, it is too bulky and heavy for the car he has in mind.
The current DCT does not go along with the concept of AM-RB 001. It should be small and light, but fast and powerful. Just like a Formula 1 car.
Newey is also thinking about hybrid augmentation. It definitely offers a lot of opportunities in a car. However, he is still researching whether or not it can be done purely mechanically.
