6-The most counterfeited bill by foreign countries is $20
Before modern society, counterfeiting was a crime punishable by death. Even Benjamin Franklin (who also printed money for a short time) put the phrase: “to counterfeit is death” on his money.
All he wanted is people to understand that counterfeiting was and STILL IS considered a threat to the economic stability of a nation.
Today, that threat to the economic stability of a nation isn’t punishable by death though.
Back in the days colonies used to print their own money and so the foreign money were often used and much of it was easily counterfeited.
The government in order to combat this, created the U.S. Mint and Secret Service.
But the counterfeit is still on and the most counterfeited money is the $20 bill followed by the $100 (which is more likely to be counterfeited in the foreign countries).
