Opened in 1927, the Ahwahnee Hotel was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1987.
Constructed from stone, wood, glass, steel and concrete, the hotel’s interiors were adapted for Stanley Kubrick’s horror film ‘The Shining’ (1980) and both ‘The Caine Mutiny’ (1954) and ‘Color of a Brisk and Leaping Day’ (1996) include footage of the Ahwahnee hotel.
