How many of you know the Mizuno brand and who could say that Mizuno makes the best boots out there?
For a fact the person who said that was Rivaldo back in 1997 when he launched the Mizuno Wave Cup.
So the Japanese brand searched for the most valuable player of the time and found Brazilian star Rivaldo, when he started to play for the Spanish team Barcelona.
So with an iconic wearer like Rivaldo and something new to add to the soccer shoe of that time, the Japanese stole the eyes of all the soccer fans and made other brand take some of its features or introduce them in other models.
So for 1997, the Mizuno Wave Cup introduced a new configuration, based on the studs, who brought something new to the table, giving the player a better grip on all kinds of grass.
So launching them back then was a success for the Japanese, gathering some other players who wore and liked the shoe, like Thiago Motta or Roque Santa Cruz.
Today we can find in stores the newer model, Mizuno Wave Ignitus 3, who has a similar stud design, the Japanese proves that they made something good who can’t be replaced very easily.
Signing Rivaldo for their shoe was a major thing for the Japanese but still remaining on the feet of world class players like famous Keisuke Honda is an important achievement after almost 17 years of changes and breakthrough in the soccer boot industry.
