N5. DRAGONSTONE -THE CROWNLANDS
Carved out of stone to look like dragons, the castle was the first place of the Targaryens when they arrived in Westeros from the east. Dragonstone passed to House Baratheon when King Robert Baratheon and Ned Stark overthrew the “Mad King” Aerys Targaryen in Robert’s Rebellion, a bloody civil war set a few years before the events of the show’s pilot.
Appropriately for its dragon-based heritage, Dragonstone sits on an active volcanic island of an equivalent name at the mouth of the Black Water Bay, strategically placed to the northeast of the realm’s capital King’s Landing.
Among the many impressive options of Dragonstone is its nice painted table, a large stone-carved map of Westeros employed by the nice Aegon Targaryen to beat the realm.
Later within the series, Stannis Baratheon broods at the table, together with his conquest of Westeros going a lot of less successfully.
