1. Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid
King Alfonso XIII ordered the Ritz so Madrid would have a hotel to rival those in London and Paris. It opened on October 2, 1910, next to the Prado Museum, and its façade is a protected national monument. Belmond sold it to Mandarin Oriental and the Olayan Group in 2015, and after a major restoration led by architect Rafael de La-Hoz and designers Gilles & Boissier it reopened on April 16, 2021. It holds three Michelin Keys on the 2025 list, and the hotel is tied to the two-Michelin-star restaurant Deessa.
2. Rosewood Villa Magna, Madrid
Formerly Hotel Villa Magna, this Castellana address holds two Michelin Keys on the 2025 list. It remains the shopping district’s most formal address and keeps a reputation for classic luxury.
3. Four Seasons Hotel Madrid
Spain’s first Four Seasons opened in September 2020 in the former Banesto headquarters, built between 1887 and 1891, as part of the Canalejas complex. It has 200 rooms and suites, two restaurants, a spa, an indoor pool and a large roof terrace. It holds two Michelin Keys.
4. Hotel Único Madrid
This 19th century building keeps original details of its façade and decor, with a small number of spacious rooms, high ceilings and a front garden. It features on the Michelin Key list, and the Michelin guide has profiled it as one of Madrid’s palace hotels. Its restaurant was previously run by chef Ramón Freixa, so check the current dining line-up.
5. The Westin Palace Madrid
One of Madrid’s historic grand hotels, near the Prado and Neptune fountain, and part of the Michelin Key list. It is listed here as The Westin Palace Madrid.
6. Hotel Santo Mauro, Madrid
This is a new entry. The Santo Mauro is a Beaux-Arts building converted into a luxury hotel in Madrid. It holds a place on the 2025 Michelin Key list.
7. Gran Meliá Palacio de los Duques
Another new entry. This palace hotel opened in the historic heart of Madrid and appears on the Michelin Key list too.
8. Gran Meliá Fénix
Hotel Fénix, a Gran Meliá hotel at Hermosilla 2, remains a Salamanca-area classic. Booking sites showed guest scores around 9.4 out of 10 from roughly 1,000 reviews, with a recent review dated February 2026.
9. The Wellington Hotel & Spa
The Wellington sits at Velázquez 8 in Salamanca, a short walk from Retiro Park. It has an outdoor pool, a spa and a terrace, and a score of about 9.4 from roughly 1,000 reviews on one booking site.
10. Hotel Orfila
This Relais & Châteaux townhouse in a 19th century building sits close to Cibeles and Retiro. Guest scores of 9.2 to 9.4 appear on two booking sites. It remains a boutique alternative to the big brand hotels.
Gone or changed since our first list
- Sheraton Madrid Mirasierra: reports say the hotel was bought by Hotusa, with plans to integrate it into Eurostars, so the Sheraton name is likely gone. We removed it.
- Silken Puerta América: still listed under the Hotel Puerta América name with about 315 rooms and a Jean Nouvel exterior, with each floor designed by a different architect. Its pool is listed as closed from September 16, 2026 to June 14, 2027, so we moved it out of the top ten.
- Urban Hotel Madrid: we found no confirmation of its current status, so we dropped it.
- Newer openings to watch: the Madrid EDITION and BLESS Hotel Madrid both turn up in 2026 guides for their rooftop pools, but we did not verify details.
