The 10 best luxury resorts in Mexico, ranked

We ranked them on setting, service level and how easy it is to book and visit safely in 2026. We found few published nightly rates on official sites, so where a price appears it is a labelled estimate drawn from listings seen in October 2026.

1. One&Only Palmilla, Los Cabos

Palmilla is a beachfront resort on the Sea of Cortez with 173 rooms, rooms from 600 to 2,100 square feet, and a renovation of about $80 million behind it. It is the one we would book for a first trip to Baja because everything works. Listings we saw in 2026 started around $1,000 a night for the cheapest double, so treat that as a starting point, not a quote.

2. Esperanza, an Auberge Resort, Los Cabos

Esperanza, in Los Cabos, offers casitas, suites, villas, casonas and haciendas. Its own site lists its restaurant Cocina del Mar as newly reimagined and highlights 2026 awards from major travel-rating bodies. Online booking was temporarily unavailable when we checked in October 2026, with reservations by phone, so book well ahead.

3. Capella Pedregal, Cabo San Lucas

Capella Pedregal is a luxury resort in Cabo San Lucas. Rates at opening started at $525 a room, and we found no current official rate, so confirm directly. Expect the price to be far higher today.

4. Rosewood Mayakoba, Riviera Maya

Rosewood Mayakoba offers Lagoon, Oceanview and Beachfront Suites, Signature Suites and Lagoon and Beachfront Villas. Its site shows no renovation notice and is taking bookings in 2026. It is the resort to pick for a Riviera Maya trip that combines the beach with the Mayakoba lagoons.

5. St. Regis Punta Mita, Riviera Nayarit

The St. Regis Punta Mita sits on the Pacific side of Banderas Bay. Recent coverage describes it as newly reopened after a refit, and listings we saw in 2026 for casitas ran from roughly $1,000 to $1,800 a night depending on the date. The brand’s butler service is the draw.

6. Maroma, A Belmond Hotel, Riviera Maya

The former Belmond Maroma is now listed as Maroma, A Belmond Hotel, on one of the Riviera Maya’s best beaches. Rates we saw in 2026 listings ran from roughly $750 to $1,450 a night depending on the season, so check Belmond’s own site for dates.

7. La Casa Que Canta, Zihuatanejo

A boutique luxury hotel in Zihuatanejo. The UK Foreign Office advises against all but essential travel to Guerrero but excludes Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa when you reach them by air, so fly in rather than drive (October 2026). Its site shows a 24-hour front desk and reservations team and lists no closure.

8. Secrets Puerto Los Cabos Golf & Spa Resort

This Hyatt Inclusive Collection resort is an adults-only, AAA Four Diamond all-inclusive with about 500 suites, 13 restaurants and bars, and access to the Puerto Los Cabos golf course and marina. We found no sign of a rename or closure in 2026.

9. Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay, Mazatlán

A condo-style resort and spa in Mazatlán, near the Golden Zone and Old Mazatlán, with golf and large suites. The UK advises against all but essential travel to most of Sinaloa, but Mazatlán is among the exceptions (October 2026). We could not retrieve current official rates.

10. Sandos Cancun Luxury Experience Resort

An all-inclusive resort in the Cancún hotel zone. Its official page did not load for us, so check the brand’s current listing for the name, adults-only status and rates before you book.

Safety and weather notes for 2026

Check the exact state before you book. The UK Foreign Office (October 2026) advises against all but essential travel to Baja California’s Tijuana and Tecate, much of Sinaloa and Guerrero and other states, with exceptions such as Mazatlán and Zihuatanejo by air. None of the Los Cabos, Riviera Maya or Nayarit resorts here sit in an advisory area. Hurricane Trudy reached Category 3 off Mexico’s Pacific coast on 16 October 2026 and was expected to pass south of Baja, so check storm forecasts for autumn trips.
