A little more successful that its sibling, the Honda Accord, the Civic has managed to sell 18.5 million units (7 million in the United States alone) since its release in 1972.
The Honda Civic was originally a two-door model and among its many awards, the car was awarded Car of the Year in Japan 3 years in a row, and ranked third in the European Car of the Year awards in 1973.
The Civic was Honda’s first big hit that kept the manufacturer in the car-making business.
