When the Star Wars Episode 1 was released (20 years later), it grossed $675 million, more than the later installments.
The following films grossed more than $400 million each.
Now you get the point. In total all the Star Wars films grossed $4.6 billion in which special editions and re-releases are included.
In 2012, Disney purchased the rights from Lucasfilms for $4 billion.
