12. Dr Pepper (Brand Value: $1.9 billion)
Depending on where you are drinking it, Dr Pepper is produced by three different companies. In United States, Dr Pepper soda you drink is produced by the 1885 origin company, Dr Pepper Snapple Group. But worldwide, this pepper-style drink is produced by two leading soft drink companies, PepsiCo (for Canada and Oceania) and Coca-Cola (for Europe).
Originated in Texas, no one really knows why Wade Morrison named it Dr Pepper. Some believe that the word “pepper” comes from pepsin, which was believed to be one of the main ingredients of this unique drink.
Some others believe that it was named after Dr. Charles T. Pepper, who was Morrison’s father in law. It was his form of gratitude for either giving him the first job or for letting him marrying Pepper’s daughter. But the real reason remains unknown.
The brand, Dr Pepper, has reached a value of $1.9 billion today. There are many variants of Dr Pepper drinks, but the original one, with caramel color, is still the most popular among all.
