Toni Braxton’s legendary hit Unbreak My Heart is one of the most popular heartbreak anthems. Today, she might have changed the lyric into Unbroke My Money. Toni went bankrupt not just once, but twice. The first one was in 1998 and the second one in 2010.
For the first bankruptcy, she sort of blamed it on her record label. During her shining career in the 90s, she generated millions of dollar. Ironically, she only took home a couple of thousands.
The second bankruptcy happened after she had to cancel her show in Vegas, which she financed herself. She was diagnosed with lupus, a long-term autoimmune disorder. Since then, she could never perform anymore. Only one or two songs occasionally, as the doctors suggested.
To recover from her $4 million debt, she had to auction her songs’ copyright. She was planning to buy them all back once she earned more money, but that never happened. This definitely made her one of the broke celebrities.
