Canon’s $30k Camera Will Let You Shoot in Extreme Darkness

Canon’s $30k camera could let you shoot in extreme darkness like you never could before.

When you say Canon, you already think about performance and great products. And this time with their newest release they didn’t disappoint.

Recently the company released a new camera that could completely change the way we take photos and videos in the dark.

How is it called?

Called the ME20F-SH, this camera could be the future of photography. It can see things in the dark that the human eye can’t, and it captures all with HD photo and video.

The camera is so revolutionary that could be used as an example for new formats for everything from surveillance video, movies, reality TV and nature documentaries.

When it will be available for purchase?

Expected to retail for $30,000, the ME20F-SH could be the thing that photographers from all around the world wished for.

This model is capable to shoot at up to 4 million ISO. What is ISO?

Well, ISO is a term used by photographers that basically describes to how your camera handles light around you, the higher the ISO, the more you can capture in a low-light situation.

For you to realize how powerful those 4 million ISO are, let’s consider the cameras from iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

Those cameras aren’t as powerful as this, because it can only go as high as 2,500 ISO. Most of the entry-level cameras available on the market today only can up to 3,200.

Higher level cameras have a rate between 10,000 and 100,000 ISO, and 200,000 ISO from a Nikon camera, but that’s another discussion from another time.

If we take those into consideration we can all agree that Canon’s new device is next-level.

Who Will Get To Use the Camera?

Basically, this new camera is a tremendous feat that will let photographers and videographers explore dark spaces in a way that was never possible before.

I believe the completion there is between Canon and Arri Alexa and Red cameras made Cannon step up its game and create this device.

The high-level video shooter that features a sleek, subtle and compact design is easy to use and it can be really helpful.

What the purpose of it?

The main purpose of this camera is to give ability to shoot in extremely dark environments, and is also great for production companies that make films, reality television and documentaries.

A Few Specs:

The down side of this is that only does 1080p, which doesn’t go well in terms of being future-proof. Canon says that had to be done to “achieve the highest possible low-light sensitivity,” which would otherwise be reduced if it went with a higher resolution and, consequently, smaller photosites.

The photosites inside the camera are over five times bigger (19 microns square) than those on some of the best interchangeable lens cameras from Canon and other companies.

As expected, you’ll find support for 3G/HD-SDI and HDMI (output-only), 2.5 and 3.5mm stereo mic jacks, plus an eight-pin RS-422 port.
