5. The money he lost
The $6.5 billion he lost over Trump’s presidential election victory was not the only time Carlos Slim Helu lost money. There are other times and the most unfortunate were those happened outside of his business ventures.
Back in 2015, he took the hardest beating. His net worth plunged due to new Mexican telecom regulations combined with weaker Mexican currency and economic crisis in Brazil. In a few months period, Carlos lost $27 billion of net worth, making him the biggest dollar loser on 2016 Forbes billionaires list.
Before that, way back in 2001, Carlos had to pay nearly a half billion dollar due to a lawsuit. Dallas-based COC Services company sued CompUSA and all of its owners (including Carlos and the former CEO) for breaching the contract of franchise right.
Well, life is not interesting without the downs, right? Even a successful billionaire like Carlos Slim Helu hits a lot of big bumps.
