9. He rules Mexico
If you are a Mexican, you are most likely to be surrounded by Slim’s companies’ products. The gadget you use to read this is charged through Slim’s electricity cable, Condumex. To get to where you’re sitting now, you drove on roads paved by Sim’s construction company, CILSA. Oh and the car you use is fueled by gasoline pumped from Slim’s drilling platform, Swecomex.
And I’m not even done.
Your house phone is connected through Slim’s phone line, Telmex. And every month you would go for grocery shopping at Sears Roebuck, which is a subsidiary of Slim’s Carso Grup.
The picture has been painted. That is how Carlos Slim Helu is ruling Mexico through its economy. With that fact, he caught many attentions. Unfortunately, some of them are negatives.
As you can tell, Mexico is not a rich country. More than a half of the country is living in poverty. So, when one man can be this rich while the rest is living the opposite, it can cause some resentment.
