4. Jamaica – Debt Deficit: 132.72% of GDP
Despite being considered as a poor country, Jamaica is the origin of many famous and successful people you most likely know. Who doesn’t know Naomi Campbell, Missy Elliott, and the rising star Tori Kelly?
If Jamaicans have been proven to have what it takes to be successful, why is the country so poor? The majority of people in Jamaica are poor. They are not lazy or unskilled.
Forty percent of Jamaican people from its productive generation are unemployed due to its government failure to create sustainable jobs to increase the standard living.
With only $13,709 worth of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 132.72% public debt of it, Jamaica needs to find a way out. It should have been among other developed countries after its fifth decades of independence.
