6. GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB)
Some people believe that instead of Massive Ordnance Air Blast, MOAB stands for ‘Mother of All Bomb’. United States Air Force designed, developed, and produced this weapon to be the most powerful non-nuclear weapon ever designed.
Since the invention of nuclear, business has been harsh for those non-nuclear dudes. But MOAB has proven that it is possible to soar through even if you are not featured with that particular technology. Weighing at 10,300 kilograms with blast yield of 11 tons TNT, MOAB has become one of the most effective non-nuclear weapons.
MOAB was first introduced in 2003 during a test at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, United States. Its slim body was designed to be carried by a C-130 Hercules during Iraq War. And its effectiveness drew British Royal Air Force’s attention to also use MOAB in military service.
McAlester Army Ammunition Plant produced fifteen of them to support that particular war in 2003. Since then, the exact number of how many of them produced or used is unknown.
