2. Tsar Bomba (RDS-220)
Remember Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings? Well, this bomb has the power to destroy 1,570 times of those two bombs combined. If that didn’t bring chills down your spine, I don’t know what will.
Tsar Bomba was created by the Soviet Union. Nobody really knows when the project really started. But we know for sure that it was tested back in 1961. To date, it remains the most powerful human-made explosion in history.
During the test, the bomb was dropped from a plane with a parachute and set to detonate around four kilometers above the vacant village of Severny Island, Russia. But still, all buildings located 55 kilometers within the test range were destroyed. And that was just the 50-megaton version of the bomb, not the full yield 100-megaton. That’s how powerful this bomb is.
The development of this thermonuclear weapon was terminated because it is considered to be too risky and inefficient. Plus, it is definite that the plane carrying the bomb and its whole crew would not escape the blast radius in real action.
