10. Joe Gallo (1929 – 1972)
Everyone has a secret. From rich businessman to self-employed salesman, all of us have something to hide. But has it even occurred to you that the secret was “I am a vicious killer”?
Can you imagine walking into a furniture store and being greeted by the salesman who turned out to be one of the deadliest assassins? That would have been the case if you have lived in Brooklyn, New York while Joe Gallo was a furniture salesman during the day and dangerous killer during the night.
However, Joe had never been convicted for any murders. The only time he went on a trial was for attempting to extort money from a café owner. He served his time for fourteen years and was released in 1971.
Once again, the deadly assassin was free even though he initiated one of the bloodiest mob conflicts as he tried to kidnap the entire Profaci leadership. Profaci eluded captivity, but once you mess around with a gang, expect a chain reaction of revenge. One thing led to another, Joe was shot multiple times at a restaurant in Manhattan as he celebrated his birthday. He died after being taken to hospital’s emergency unit.
