4. The decider is not even in the World’s Top 10 rank
Denmark won the first men’s singles match. Viktor Axelsen defeated Indonesia’s best, Tommy Sugiarto, with two games straight. And then, Indonesia fought back by winning the first men’s doubles match.
It appears that Denmark exceeded Indonesia in terms of men’s singles match as Jan Ø. Jørgensen defeated Anthony Ginting to put Denmark ahead on the overall score. And again, Indonesia fought back on the second men’s doubles match.
The score was 2-2 after four thrilling matches. It came down to a deciding last match. The decider was between Hans-Kristian Vittinghus and Ihsan Maulana Mustofa.
Vittinghus held an important role that day. He was the decider of Denmark’s historical victory. He beats the odds as he is only ranked 13th in the world. His teammates gave him the privilege to lift the Thomas Cup first before the others.
