3. Denmark only had Peter Gade as the world’s number 1
There was a breath of a fresh air for Denmark in the era of Peter Gade. Now, he has retired. But he made great contributions to his country throughout his badminton career.
Peter Gade was the world’s number one badminton player twice. The first was in 1997. He held the record for three consecutive years. And the last one was briefly in 2006.
Denmark seemed to have some kind of jinx in Thomas Cup. Because even the world’s number one could not help the nation clinching the title.
The closest result Peter Gade has ever brought Denmark to winning the title was as semifinalist in 2012 Thomas Cup. Perhaps after this victory, Denmark will generate more world’s number one players.
