6. Cable Car Kriek ($1.23 per ml)
While Samuel Adams’s Utopias is the most expensive beer in America sold at retails, Lost Abbey’s Cable Car Kriek is the most expensive one sold at auction.
Back in 2014, the Skinner auction house put this on offer. And it went to a buyer who bid it for $923. Its 750-ml volume makes the beer worth $1.23 per ml.
These babies were produced exclusively. There were only sixty of them released. And it was sold in a special event held by the Lost Abbey. Back in November 2011, first sixty buyers in a queue with $50 on their hands can get a bottle of Cable Car Kriek plus two Lost Abbey Tulip glasses.
From $50 to $923 (plus the two glasses we assume he keeps) in just about three years, that is a smart investment.
