2. Loerik 1998 ($3.44 per ml)
Loerik 1998 is the most expensive beer ever sold in Belgium. It is also the most expensive sold at auction in the world with a staggering $2,583 for one 750-ml bottle. It makes it worth $3.44 per ml.
This beer shares similar success story with brownie. Do you know that the inventor of brownie intended to make sponge cake? It didn’t rise and fluff but it tasted great anyway. Same goes to Loerik . It is a blend of lambics intended to be gueuze.
Even with the cartoon character, Poje, on the label, this beer does not lose its exclusivity. This was proven at the Skinner auction house by that staggering bid in 2014.
Finding these many Belgian beers as we are approaching the top of our list makes me want to go to Spa Francorchamps, the Formula 1 circuit, even more!
